This intensive three day course focuses on our Anarkik 3D Design software for 3D modelling for 3D printing. It is aimed at designer makers and other creatives, with a session on selling your work profitably.

We have a maximum of 5 people so you receive sufficient individual attention to make the most of the course. There is plenty of time to try out the software and haptic device yourself.

Programme: 3 days, 9:30am to 5:30pm
Venue:  Anarkik3D’s studio in Edinburgh.
Outcome: Practical experience of Anarkik 3D Design for organic 3D modelling, with information on both 3D printing and marketing your work.

Description

Ann Marie Shillito, Anarkik3D’s founder, delivers the course. She has extensive experience in teaching, in addition to using Anarkik 3D Design for her own creations. Ann Marie is able to adapt the course to suit participants due to her many years of experience in the creative and 3D modelling fields. You can learn more about Ann Marie here.

What you can expect on our three day course:

DAY 1

Morning session 9am-12.30pm

  • Brief introduction to 3D modelling
  • Demonstration of the Anarkik 3D Design system and Falcon haptic device
  • Hands-on session
    • Discover the advantages of our tactile 3D input device
    • Try navigating in a three-dimensional virtual environment
    • Try making and moving objects in three dimensions on-screen
    • Try working with the functions of the software, using a structured tutorial with individual assistance

Lunchbreak 12.30-1.30pm

  • Please bring your own lunch
  • Take a chance to examine and handle 3D printed jewellery
  • Ask questions and discuss your progress

Afternoon session 1.30pm-5.30pm

  • Hands-on session
    • continue working through the tutorial with one-to-one support
  • Designing for 3D printing
    • Discuss the principles of 3D printing
    • How to create robust models and keep costs down
    • Saving your models in the right file format and scale
    • How to get hold of models to manipulate and customise
    • How to access 3D printing services
    • Other issues and potential costs
  • Brief overview of day 2

DAY 2

Morning session 9am-12.30pm

  • Tea/coffee and an informal discussion about agenda for day 2
  • Hands on session
    • Start work on your own model with a view to having it 3D printed
  • Further discussion of designing for 3D printing, with individual feedback

Lunchbreak 12.30-1.30pm As day 1

Afternoon session 1.30pm-5.30pm

  • Hands-on session
    • continue working on your model, with one-to-one support
  • Materials and processes for 3D printing, with examples
    • Materials available: plastics, resin, glass, metal etc
    • Designing for different 3D printing systems
    • Further information on accessing 3D printing services
    • Likely issues and costs
  • Selling your creations
    • How to price your creations
    • Identifying the best markets for your work
    • Pricing your work
    • Tips and tricks for selling, marketing and promoting your work
  • Closing session
    • Question and answer session.
    • Overview of Day 3
    • Course material handed out to take away

DAY 3

Morning session 9am-12.30pm

  • Tea/coffee and an informal discussion about agenda for day 3
  • Hands on session
    • Continue working on your model with pointers from Ann Marie
    • Advice on using Anarkik 3D Design with other CAD packages
    • Improving models for 3D printing

Lunchbreak 12.30-1.30pm As day 1

Afternoon session 1.30pm-5.30pm

  • Session on 3D printing with professional 3D printing services
    • Setting up accounts
    • Other aspects of using online services
  • One-to-one session for filling in any gaps
  • Closing session
    • Question and answer session
    • Overview of the course
