Course: Creating, Prototyping fast – 3D modelling for 3D printing

5th February 2019, 10am to 2pm, in collaboration with Barclay’s Eagle Lab at Codebase, 38 Castle Terrace, Edinburgh EH3 9DZ.

Fee: £53 (+VAT). All essential software and equipment is provided.

On this new short 4 hour course: Creating, Prototyping fast – 3D modelling for 3D printing, you will discover and explore the creative potential of 3D modelling and 3D printing* for generating early concept models to test viability.

Anarkik3D’s remarkable award-winning 3D modelling system, Anarkik3D Design is the 3D modelling progranmme used. This course is aimed at those creative people, designers and makers for whom CAD programmes are too cumbersome and prescriptive for their way of working, who struggle with using standard Computer Aided Design Programmes (CAD) such as Rhino.

Anarkik3D Design is a haptic (virtual 3D touch) 3D modelling package that uses a very real sense of 3D touch and fluid movement in 3D, to make navigating the virtual space more natural. Haptics and 3D movement make a programme easier and faster to learn than CAD, and provide an enjoyable 3D modelling experience at a professional level to enhance your business and practice.

* To maximise design time on this short course we recommend that participants who are new to 3D printing sign up (contact here) for an initial free induction into 3D printing at Barclays Eagle Lab in Edinburgh beforehand. This is on 23rd January, 11 am to 12.30 pm when 3D printing is the focus. Please contact them directly.

Description

Course: Creating, Prototyping fast– new four-hour course, introducing 3D modelling for 3D printing, for designer makers and applied artists who prefer not to use CAD programmes!

The course uses Anarkik3D Design, a haptic 3D modelling package that has 3D touch and movement in 3D, to aid navigating the virtual 3D space and be easier and faster to learn than CAD. Although easy to learn there is ample scope for mastery at a professional level to enhance your business and practice.

With a small class size, individual support is there at all stages: for using the haptic Anarkik3D Design programme, for your specific requirements, and for your next stage.  The course is being held in Barclay’s Edinburgh Eagle Lab, 38 Castle Terrace, Edinburgh EH3 9DZ, and Hannah Cameron will be present to answer specific questions about 3D printing.  If you are new to 3D printing you are advised to sign up for Eagle Lab’s free Induction sessions on January 23rd 2019, 11am to 12:30pm. Please contact them directly here.

The programme for Course: Creating, Prototyping fast is as follows:

    • A brief introduction to 3D printing* and benefits for prototyping
    • An introduction to a tactile 3D modelling system for designer makers
    • Hands-on 3D modelling sessions
    • Discussion around design and 3D printing considerations
        • Ensuring your 3D models are robust
        • Materials and finishes
        • Professional 3D printing services
        • Other programmes & file formats for transfer of data
      • Ongoing support for 3D printing your work
    • A showcase of 3D printed jewellery created by designer makers
  • A question-and-answer session

Helpful worksheets are provided, covering all the tools to keep you moving forward!

The main outcome from the course is sufficient knowledge and information about 3D modelling for 3D printing to make decisions about the next stages for accessing 3D technologies for prototyping.
