Donna Brennan Contemporary is pleased to announce an exciting  International Masterclass in London “Intuitive Haptic 3D Digital Modelling” ANARKIK3D DESIGN MASTERCLASS 13 Oct – 14 Oct 2018 with Ann Marie Shillito This intensive Anarkik3D Design Masterclass is geared to the requirements of jewellers, designer makers, applied artists and creative people who want to expand their business by taking advantage of 3D digital designing and 3D printing opportunities but find standard Computer Aided Design (CAD) programmes very intimidating. Led by designer/maker/jeweller Ann Marie Shillito: author of the book ‘Digital Crafts – Industrial Technologies for Applied Artists & Designer Makers’. Ann Marie is CEO of Anarkik3D, which develops 3D modelling software usedRead More →

This book showcases ground-breaking methods and techniques that have been adapted from industry and are now being applied by designer-makers. To the uninitiated, these technologies may seem complex, but this book explains simply and clearly how they have developed, how they work, and their application. Packed full with case studies of artists using these processes, this book demonstrates that outstanding work is possible with the right equipment and know-how, and argues that designer makers have the mindset, skills and knowledge to creatively engage with these industrial technologies.

This is how prototyping happened. Update on the post below: October 2016: three units were 3D printed in paper in colour on Mcor’s new 3D printer, prototyping them to check whether the holes through the length of the units could be cleared easily and how best to do that. The design of the units was moving towards what I wanted. Mcor’s ARKe technology offers high deffinition colour and our Anarkik3D Design package has some exciting ways to crisply colour surfaces by using coloured objects with complex curves and boolean subtraction. Serendipity is a delightful element in Anarkik3D Design which can be explored and played with as unexpectedRead More →

Passionate about 3D printing – but can’t do CAD? Here is a link to a SlideShare presentation (http://www.slideshare.net/AnnMarieShillito/) rich in images and information about 3D printing, how to get models and how designer makers and artists are using 3D technologies. The blog is also about a visit to Creative Spark in Dundalk in Ireland to give a 1 day workshop/class on 3D modelling for 3D printing for designers and artists and a drop-in hands-on demo session, a visit to Mcor Technologies to see their impressive colour 3D printers, and a visit to the Fablab in Limerick.Read More →

This is the title of the Presentation I gave at the 3DPrintShow 2014 in London in September about other ways that designers are accessing 3D printing! http://www.slideshare.net/AnnMarieShillito/. I gave the presentation again (more slides added) on 31st October at a drop-in demo session at Creative Spark in Dundalk, Ireland. Creative Spark is a great resourse centre with space for small businesses to rent, with workshops, courses and classes for both learning, making and business development – the reason we were there. The previous day we had given a 1 day course on 3D modelling for 3D printing. To 3D print you have to have the right sort ofRead More →

11 month’s ago I headlined a post on my own blog titled  “Is a designer ‘cheating’ if they use 3D modelling packages that are incredibly ‘easy to learn and use’?” http://annmarieshillito.wordpress.com/2011/05/16/cloud9-cheating/ The following quote from Nick Grace who runs RapidForm at the Royal College of Art in London is pertinent to my blog point about complexity of process excluding many talented and creative people from using digital tools such as 3D modelling and 3D printing as they do not have the time and resources to begin to learn software of any sort with steep learning curves. Any tool that aids their practice is fair gameRead More →

Award winning, interactive, Cloud9 designed, 3D printed work. 3D printing is hot. You need 3D digital data of the model befor it can be printed. Here is a great video in which Farah Bandookwala shows how haptic Cloud9 with its virtual touch has revolutionised the way she works with computers and 3D printing. Cloud9 is the 3D modelling software for creative people, designed by a designer at Anarkik3D for designers, applied artists and  artists.Read More →
