real 3D touch and feel in virtual reality The Challenge Haptic VR? Imagine 3D modelling digitally in a VR space, not only seeing your model with VR’s 3D vision but also being able to touch and feel the substance of your model, it’s hardness/softness, its 3D form and surface quality. We’re delighted to be kicking off 2022 by being one of six new Challenge Projects, supported and funded by Creative Informatics. We are all creative and cultural organisations based across Edinburgh and South East Scotland! Individuals and SMEs that have the skills to provide data-driven solutions to our challenge are invited to respond to thisRead More →

Anarkik3D’s fortnightly Wednesday Zoom meet-up for designer makers and applied artists has changed focus. One year on, these will now be by invitation as we move to supporting the people who have either purchased Anarkik3DDesign or are loaning the package on a monthly basis.

To 3D print you need a printable digital model. The issue regarding the wherewithall to access 3D print technology is standard 3D design programmes as these are developed primarily for industrial designers requiring complex functionality to design for mass manufacturing processes. Applied artists, like myself, can’t afford the steep learning curves required to master highly complex prescriptive programmes. Not having the wherewithal to create sound 3D digital models to 3D print means that we can’t easily access this amazing technology. Looking for a way into 3D print technologies Colleagues and I researched, designed and created a remarkable 3D modelling tool for applied artists to workRead More →

Anarkik3D and Calm Technology As a new CEO of Anarkik3D in 2007, I perceived our approach to the development of 3D software as something like this: “Visualise an elegant swan gliding along calmly and effortlessly (a metaphore for our user interface) and under water superbly evolved webbed feet (the programme we build) paddle away relentlessly against the current (general computer applications) to get where it wants to be (a new enjoyable user experience)”. This core principle is the heart of Anarkik3D’s remarkable 3D modelling programme built specifically for designer makers for their way of thinking and doing. National exhibitions of Leonardo's drawings: Ulster Museum in Belfast, N. Ireland

The nationwide ‘Leonardo da Vinci: A Life in Drawing’* exhibitions mark the 500th anniversary of his death. As part of the Ulster Museum‘s programme of events in Belfast, centred around their exhibition of Leonardo’s Drawings’ the Museum’s Education Officer organised workshops on 25th and 26th April on 3D modelling for 3D printing. The two one-day workshops were for teachers, designer makers and students and used Anarkik3D Design haptic 3D modelling programme. Workshop for school teachers The first workshop was for school teachers to experience haptic 3D modelling. The haptic sensation, as 3D virtual touch, makes Anarkik3D Design easy to access as no previous experience of 3DRead More →

Birgit and Ann Marie giving hands-on demos of haptic 3D modelling to just some of our many visitors at Munich International Handwerk&Design Fair.

Feedback from designer makers and students confirmed that Anarkik3D Design 3D modelling programme is on the right trajectory as it is focused on providing a straightforward interface and selected functionality, both fundamental to enabling many to finally access 3D print technologies. So many visitors delighted in finding an alternative programme to CAD.

Some of our Anarkik3D Design users have very generously shared their progress and work with us over the years and here we are celebrating Anarkik Creators and their jewellery. More here. Celebrating Anarkik Creators: ANNE EARLS BOYLAN Anne  is an established contemporary jeweller and lecturer at Belfast School of Art. She labelled herself a technological illiterate who has bought into Anarkik3D Design. She purchased her kit in January 2018, having participated in the Craft Council UK’s national Make:Shift:Do event we held. The black piece is from Anne’s latest batch of 3D prints designed using our software, 3D printed in polyamide, dyed black.   Anne has set moonstones in the pod, with pigmented polyurethane andRead More →

Ursula Guttmann: Free form designing created in an ANARKIK3D DESIGN MASTERCLASS/ workshop using this haptic 3D modelling programme.

ANARKIK3D DESIGN MASTERCLASS Q&A: “Intuitive Haptic 3D Digital Modelling” This masterclass was held on 13 Oct – 14 Oct 2018, in London, and run by Ann Marie Shillito. Q. Regarding the Anarkik3D Design Masterclass, what is the difference between a workshop and a Masterclass? A. A workshop is a more general learning environment for explorations within a theme, be that context, material or process. A masterclass is a more intensive learning environment for professionals within a specific discipline and run by an expert in that discipline. This masterclass has more clearly defined outcomes and is structured to achieve these. Ann Marie Shillito, running the masterclass,Read More →
