The people for whom I am writing this post believe in their expertise, integrity and autonomy as designer makers and applied artists, people who are open to learning new skills and open to the benefits of 3D digital technology: for enhancing their practice, helping make it more sustainable in the longer term – because they are concerned about the impact that climate breakdown is having globally. Hence this post on A 3D Digital Technology Journey: supporting a designer/maker’s more environmentally responsible practice. I am Ann Marie Shillito, a designer maker and jeweller, also co-founder and CEO of Anarkik3D Ltd. I have always been eco conscious.Read More →

This post celebrates (in) – Somnium: new work by Katja Prins, a jewellery artist in Amsterdam. Katja was introduced to Anarkik3DDesign, a 3D modelling programme, by her fellow jewellery maker, Birgit Laken and was immediately fascinated by this intuitive way of designing! The image shows 4 brooches, with 3D printed forms combined with silver and other elements. “(in) – Somnium” is exhibited at Galerie Rob Koudijs in Amsterdam until 17th December 2022. In her practice, Katja Prins reflects on her fascination for the relationship between technology and the human body. She is interested in the ambivalence, contradictions, the thin line between good and bad, improvementRead More →

Anarkik3D’s fortnightly Wednesday Zoom meet-up for designer makers and applied artists has changed focus. One year on, these will now be by invitation as we move to supporting the people who have either purchased Anarkik3DDesign or are loaning the package on a monthly basis.

This is how prototyping progressed. Update on the post below: October 2016: three units were 3D printed in paper in colour on Mcor’s new 3D printer, prototyping them to check whether the holes through the length of the units could be cleared easily and how best to do that. The design of the units was moving towards what I wanted. Mcor’s ARKe technology offers high deffinition colour and our Anarkik3D Design package has some exciting ways to crisply colour surfaces by using coloured objects with complex curves and boolean subtraction. Serendipity is a delightful element in Anarkik3D Design which can be explored and played with as unexpectedRead More →

SlideShare presentation for #shemakes, a GirlGeekAcademy event in Melbourne, Austratia, 10th Sept 2016. Here is more information on each slide: Slide 1. My story: a career move from designer jeweller to running a software development company. The move seems a big leap but is really a very straight path helped along the way through collaborating with super techies and computer scientists and demonstrates the value that STEAM collaborations bring to innovation. Slide 2. My jewellery business specialised in using refractory metals such as titanium and niobium. Refractory metals are not easy to cut by hand but laser cuts them like butter and the technology madeRead More →

We set up Anarkik Creations Ltd to create a place where we can bring together the jewellers using Anarkik3D’s haptic 3D modelling software, and 3D printing to produce amazingly delicious pieces, and the people who relish wearing such outstanding statement jewellery that makes them stand out from the crowd! A range of these pieces are currently available through our crowdfunding project. Go see if you dare: http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/anarkikcreations. The project ends at 7 pm GMT on 18th April 2016.
