Removing the CAD barrier to 3D printing for students on a jewellery course! Monday 19th May was exciting and fun. We showed that Anarkik 3D Design can remove a major barrier to 3D digital technologies, such as 3D printing. This barrier is CAD (computer aided design) which for many designer makers and artists just does not work for them. The way they work is different, to product designers and engineers. They work more fluidly, can be more experimental and exploratory. On the 19th, 6 jewellers, with little expertise in 3D digital modelling (some hours trying to learn Rhino), came to Anarkik3D on a 1 day course and at the end of the day each created a model for 3D printing. The models were saved in .stl format ready for uploading to Sculpteo.
The 3D printed models will be finished for an exhibition in Glasgow in June and we will show the jewellery pieces here too. The jewellers, Kathryn Williamson, Nikki Henderson, Carolyn Stuart, Amanda McGrattan, Karen McGregor and Susan Wilson have been videoed and once the clips have been edited together we will get them up here.
